Obituary of Margaret A Smith

Margaret A. (Hance) Smith "Peggy" age 81 of Norwood, passed away on August 3, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

 

She is predeceased by her parents Albert and Margaret Donley and her brother James Donley.

 

Survivors: Beloved wife of 54 years to William J. Smith Jr. (Bill), Loving mother of Kimberly (Dennis) Farmer, Cindy L. (Terri Segal) Smith, Brian J. (Irene) Smith, Colleen M. Smith, and Shelly A. (Harry Little) Smith, cherished grandmother of David, Jason, Whitney, Dylan, and Aaron, great grandmother of Kyleigh and Alexa, dear sister of Marti Millington and Faith Tillotson.

 

Celebration of Life: Saturday 8/12/23, 10:00 am (Celebration of Life service at 10am followed by luncheon at 11am; all friends and family welcome)

A Little About Peggy:

 

On February 21, 1942, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, a bright light came into this world. They called her Peggy Ann. Though she was an only child until the age of 16 when her baby brother, Jimmy, was born… she was part of a large family with lots of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins with whom she spent much of her childhood between PA and NJ.

 

In 1960, Peggy graduated from Interboro High School and put her excellent typing, shorthand, and grammar skills to work as a Secretary for Scott Paper Co. She was a single, working woman and enjoyed being with friends and traveling. One of her highlights during this time was a chance to be an Actress as an extra in one of her favorite TV shows, Route 66, where she lit up the screen with her beauty, elegance and grace and also said she had fun!

 

Peggy Ann soon married, but the marriage ended quickly leaving her to raise a child on her own. Being a Single Mom and Working Woman in the early 1960's was quite challenging. She was able to move back in with her parents for 2 years and then got an apartment of her own for her young daughter and herself. Peggy managed to navigate all of these challenges and find and marry her soul mate a few years later.

 

In 1969, Bill and Peggy were married in a small, private church ceremony. Peggy brought along one child, Cindy, from her first marriage. Bill also had 2 children, Kim and Brian, from his first marriage, and they would come and spend time. Peg and Bill moved out of their apartment and into their first house about a year later. Peggy continued to work and then they had 2 children together, Colleen and Shelly.

 

And so, Peggy's family grew as did her life, friendships, talents, and her light in this world.

 

Being part of a musical family, music was always a part of her life. She played Guitar and Piano and sang in the Church Choir. A very creative person with many interests and talents, she did Yoga, candle making, decorating, sewing, painting, woodworking, baking… the list goes on. All through her life, she was creating art in some form even in the smallest of things that she did. It's just who she was.

 

Peggy Ann loved many things; Chocolate, Country Music, Line Dancing, Animals, Camping with her kids and grandkids, Chocolate, her shore house, the beach, traveling, Chocolate, lick-a-licks, Shady Maple, yard sales, a good sense of humor, Chocolate, swimming, game night, Church, eating her way down the boardwalk, Holidays, decorating her house like a Country Store and sharing tips with others who admired her home… and in more recent years, playing the Mandolin at Bluegrass festivals, church, coffee shops, listening to bluegrass music, traveling to the festivals in the trailer with her husband, playing mandolin and singing along with Bill playing guitar. … Peggy loved many things, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She also had a knack for turning strangers into family and being a friend to those in need. Peggy Ann always counted her blessings and said she had many. She was a blessing to so many and will be greatly missed here.

 

On February 21, 1942, a bright light came into this world.

 

On August 3, 2023, that bright light was called back to the sky where it will shine down on all the light it left here with us along the way…. Until we meet again. And there's Love. And Love Never Ends.

 

Peggy Ann (Hance) Smith was Here… and our world is forever changed by that.
