Mary Kathryn Trombetta (nee Purdin), age 96 of Sterling, Virginia, formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 5, 2020. Mary achieved her associate’s degree in accounting from UCLA before entering the U.S. Navy where she served as a clerk during World War II. She received a American Theatre of War Ribbon, and aWWII Victory Ribbon for her time in the Navy before being discharged in 1949. During her time in the Navy, she met her husband Joseph Trombetta, an Army man, who she was happily married to for 11 years. Together they raised 4 children before his passing in 1958. Mary worked as a Librarian for the Philadelphia Public Schools before moving to Virginia with her daughter. After moving to Virginia, she served as secretary of the Sterling Seniors. She spent the later years enjoying her life and travelling. She enjoyed puzzles, the Philadelphia Eagles, attending Army v. Navy Games, always rooting for the Navy. Along with her late husband, Joseph Trombetta, she is also predeceased by 2 children, Joseph and Robert Trombetta, grandson Joseph Trombetta, and siblings Harvey, Edith, Osma, and Eileen. She is survived by her two loving children, Dominick (Elizabeth) Trombetta and Joan (Lawrence) Dodge, daughter in law Lynn Trombetta, cherished grandchildren, Rachel Trombetta, Christine (Addam) French, Albert (Kathy) Trombetta, and Maryann (Jason) Baran, and great grandchildren Eve, Brianna, Myisha, Anthony “AJ”, Skylar, Jason Jr., Chloe, Alexa, Gianna, and Dominic, as well as many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held from 6-7PM on Friday, January 10 at McCausland Garrity Marchesani Funeral Home, 343 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden PA 19036 with a funeral service immediately following at 7PM. Burial will be held at 10AM on Saturday, January 11 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA.
