We were very sorry to hear the news about Gene's sudden passing. Looks like it was a blessing that the whole clan was able to be together at Cathy and Dennis' for Labor Day. We really do need to treasure any time we get to spend together with family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Terry and Family -
Words cannot express my sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one. Gene was a good man, a hard worker who was dedicated to the job and very good at what he did. He and I had a mutual respect for one another that grew into a friendship that I will always cherish. Gene was the type of person who led by example. He was strong willed but he was also a good listener who was able to make adjustments when necessary. Being a good listener is a trait that makes a good leader, it's also a trait that very few people possess. When I think of Gene, the first thing that comes to mind is his sense of humor - yes that warped sense of humor. Our lunch conversations were hilarious, intense and many times food for thought. Some of them would have put Saturday Night Live to shame.
Gene always talked about his family, he was very proud of them and it was obvious he loved his family very much. It is sometimes said that the measure of one's life is the effect one has on the people he has touched during his lifetime. I can personally attest to the fact that Gene Farina has had a positive effect on more people that he could ever imagine.
Rest in peace my friend.
Sincerely,
Deputy Warden Walter K. Reed
More importantly your friend "Walt"

Gene, Thanks for everything and for believing in me when others didn't. You gave me an opportunity that would allow me to become a better officer and father. I remember our chats in your office about sports and telling you I hate the Yankees and you telling me to get out of your office. The prison lost a huge centerpiece with your passing as you were the one who always had our back. Godspeed Gene, I will see you when I get there.
