We first met Mr. Cant while he was tuning a piano where I used to work. After he had finished, he began to play the most beautiful chord progressions and I was surprised when he told me he'd never taken lessons. Each time he came to our house to tune our piano, we received much more than the best piano tuning -- there were stories about his life and adventures and then the much-awaited chess game with our children which, of course, he always won. When he would leave the house, we knew the piano would be perfectly in tune.
When Mr. Cant died, the world lost an incredible piano technician and an all-around great man, not to mention a World War ll veteran and a self-taught chess champion. No one else has come close to tuning our piano so well.
We just learned of Mr. Cant's death and we regret missing his funeral. We truly miss him and his sweet personality. We are grateful for the years we knew him and were able to benefit from the champion chess player who tuned our piano.
