Obituary of Louis P Mazzenga

Louis P. Mazzenga, currently of Drexel Hill, PA, formerly of Glenolden and West Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2017. Born in Philadelphia on April 18, 1935, he was the youngest son of Luciano and Carmella "Millie" (Darlano) Mazzenga. He was the loving husband of Charlotte (Kleaver). He also leaves behind his cherished daughters, Lisa Mazzenga (Francesco Bellastelli), Maria Mazzenga (Raul Avellaneda) and Michelle (Craig) Dupell, whom he loved unconditionally. In his later years, he enjoyed nothing more than watching his three grandchildren, Joshua, Aric and Amanda Dupell, participate in various sports, most especially football,lacrosse and water polo. He is also survived by his much loved great-grandson, Landon Varish. After graduating from St. Thomas More High School, Philadelphia in 1953, Lou went to work as a plumber, and then ultimately as a carpenter. After his retirement, he spent his days working at Target in Springfield, PA and could be seen pushing his shopping cart through the store, doing what he loved best – helping others. He was a dedicated worker with an incredible work ethic. He also enjoyed relaxing with family and friends and was well known for his 4th of July parties. First Fridays meant poker, pinochle and Miller High Life with the Holy Name Society, but the rest of the weekend was reserved for his family, coaching football in the fall while his daughters cheered, and his daughters' softball teams in the spring. Lou was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Gerard Mazzenga. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his name to a charity of your choice . In celebration of his life, raise a bottle of Miller High Life and play a hand of poker or pinochle. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 23 from 10 – 11 am at St. George Parish, Lamont Avenue, Glenolden, PA. Mass will immediately follow. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
