Thomas MacCabe Werner, 93 Casualty Underwriter and Organist Thomas M. Werner of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, died on September 10, 2016, at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Karl and Elsie Werner and brother of the late Charles. He was raised in Glenolden, Pennsylvania and later lived in Wallingford, Delaware County, Pennsylvania before moving to Elizabethtown. He was a graduate of Glen-Nor High School, class of 1941, and the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1947, where he was an economics and history major. As a student at Penn he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Gamma Mu honorary societies and a member of Alpha Chi Rho social fraternity. Mr. Werner served in the 228th Field Artillery Group Headquarters Battery during World War II. He participated in campaigns between Omaha Beach in Normandy and the Elbe River in Germany. He was a casualty underwriter with The Insurance Company of North America and its successor CIGNA for 40 years. Mr. Werner was an organist in various local churches. He sang with the University Glee Club of Philadelphia, the Franklinville Quartet Club of Philadelphia, and the Lancaster Liederkranz. He was a member of Merion American Legion Post 545, Fred Barley VFW Post 5667 of Elizabethtown, and Prospect Park Masonic Lodge 578 F. & A. M. In retirement years he was associated with the distribution of Town Talk Newspapers. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Moyer Werner, to whom he was married for 66 years, also by daughters Sue Godin, wife of William Godin, of Bellair Beach, Florida, and Karen Werner of Wernersville, Pennsylvania, and by three granddaughters. On Friday, September 16, friends will be received at Christ Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown from 10:00 am until the time of the Service. A pre-Service organ recital will begin at 10:30 am with the Service beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill the following day at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hillsdale College, 33 East College Street, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242-9989, or to the Salvation Army of Chester, or to Christ Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania 17022.
