Obituary of Margaret M. Garrity

Margaret " Marti" M. Garrity (Nee Walsh) age 68 of Aldan, passed away on October 11, 2010 surrounded by her family at Little Flower Manor. Born in Scranton PA., she was raised in Sharon Hill. She graduated Holy Spirit Grade School and Holy Child Academy (Sharon) High School in 1960 and in 1963 from Fitzgerald Mercy Nursing School where she received her Register Nurse Degree. She also attended the University of Penn Nursing program.
After graduation, she worked for 29 years as a RN in the Emergency Rooms at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Springfield Hospital, where she was a supervisor and held other positions.
In 1993, she completed the program and received her certification in Case Management and became a Legal Nurse Consultant, She worked at Acme Markets, Comp Services of Philadelphia and Frankford Hospital.
She retired in 2007 from Frankford Hospital Work Health where she coordinated medical services for employees and other companies. She did consulting work for various lawyers on evaluating cases for trial. After retirement she enjoyed assisting her daughter at McCausland-Garrity Funeral Home.
Mrs. Garrity was the Emergency Management Coordinator for Aldan Borough for 26 years and a member of Eastern Delco Emergency Management Council for many years retiring in 2007. She also served as a coordinator for the Disaster Response Team for the American Red Cross.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Eugene Church. She had a special devotion to St. John Neumann and attended services at the shine in Philadelphia. For several years, she served as president of St. Eugene Home and School Assoc. where she instrumental in establishing the computer room as well as teaching CPR to the students.
She was an avid reader and liked to crochet. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her family especially to her homes in Mt. Pocono and Sea Isle City, NJ.
She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her family especially at family affairs and holidays.
Marti was a kind and generous person who would go out of her way to help others. She was a true lady who freely gave her time to her family and others in a gentle and kind way.
Predeceased by her parents Robert J. Sr. and Irene P. Walsh and brother and sister in law Robert J. Jr. and Viola Walsh.

Loving and devoted mother of Joseph J. (Donna) Garrity of Morton
Patricia L. (Angelo) Marchesani of Glenolden and Kathleen I. (Joseph) Mellek of Ardmore.
Loving Sister of M. Irene (Frank) Byrne of South Glastonbury, CT.
Cherished grandmother of Tyler
Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass; Monday 11am at St Eugene's Roman Catholic Church, Oak Ave Primos, PA 19018.
Visitation: Sunday 6-9pm at McCausland Garrity Funeral Home 202 S. Chester Pk Glenolden, PA and Monday 9:30-10:45 am at the church.
