Obituary of Robert J. Walsh

Robert J. Walsh, Jr. Age 83 of Joppa, Maryland and Boulder City, Nevada, passed away in Bel Air, MD on May 29, 2010 surrounded by his family. Mr. Walsh was born on October 23, 1926 in Scranton, PA the son of the late Robert J. Sr. and the late Irene P. Walsh. Mr. Walsh graduated West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, and the University of Maryland. He retired after 20 years as a US Army Major, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict, and served in Military Intelligence from 1948 to 1965. He then worked as a civilian employee of the Department of the Army for 26 years at Fort Holabird and Fort Meade in Maryland. He was a past Commander of the Joppatowne Memorial VFW Post 5838 in Joppa, MD. Upon Retirement in 1991, Mr. Walsh and his wife of 51 years, the late Viola Hocking Walsh, moved to Boulder City, Nevada. He was a member of the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps., Inc. He was passionate about genealogy and was a member of Genealogy Societies in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Beloved Husband of the late Viola Hocking Walsh Loving father of Robert J. (Joan Elizabeth) Walsh III of Joppa, MD; and Janice Robin (Thomas) Hill of Columbia, MD. Cherished grandfather of Robert, Michael (Sujin) and Kevin Walsh and Julia and Christine Hill; he was also great grandfather to Colin Walsh. Loving brother of Irene (Frank) Byrne, of CT. and Margaret (William) Garrity of PA. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, 3-5PM at McCausland-Garrity Funeral Home, 202 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA 19036. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on September 21, 2010 at 12:45PM at Fort Myers Post Chapel, burial to follow at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
