Tom was such a stimulating and gracious professor. He taught me what a teach is meant to be: one who honors students best intentions, cares about the whole person, while never letting sentiment cloud judgment.
When my older daughter was born, the night of our take home essay final in the Major Prophets, Tom was gracious to give me a grade on what little I had produced in terms of an essay. I had written, on the back of an envelope from the hospital, a song. My final "essay" was a little ditty called, "Deborah Never Sang, But She Knew How to Rock n' Roll". Tom gave me an A, writing in Hebrew, "Craig rocks".
Tom taught me about so much more than the Old Testament. By his life he taught us about life with a loving God.
