Obituary of Francis Earl Reed

Francis Earl Reed, Jr., age 83, of Colwyn died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at home in Colwyn. Mr. Reed was born August 16, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA. and resided in Colwyn for more then 50 years. He was a 1944 gradaute of John Bartram High School and attended the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business where he received his real estate license and insurance broker's license. An Army veteran, he served during WWII in the Pacific Theater in the battle of Okinawa. Retiring in 1996 he was a deputy Marine Underwriter for INA-Cigna Insurance Company for more then 50 years. He was the owner of F. Earl Reed Insurance Company where he prepared private insurance and tax forms. A lifetime member of Colwyn Fire Company #1, he served as President as well as numerous other administrative positions. He was elected Colwyn Borough Auditor for 5 years and served as secretary of the Colwyn Comets football team. He was a Mason and a Member of Artisans Order. Mr. Reed enjoyed watching the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers and enjoyed vacationing in Cape May NJ, North Wildwood, NJ and Disney World with his children and grandchildren. He was an outgoing and happy person who was devoted to his family and to the community. He is the son of the late F. Earl and the late Josephine (Davis) Reed, Sr. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy C. (Ash) Reed, daughters: Kimberly Mullan, Pamela Barson and sons: F. Earl Reed, III, John Reed, his grandchildren Steven, Marty, Sydney and Devon And also survived by his brothers Robert Reed and Richard Reed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Monday, Dec, 21, 2009 at 10:00AM at McCausland - Garrity Funeral Home, 202 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA Viewing Sunday, 7-9PM and Monday, 9-10AM. Burial Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill. .
