Obituary of George M Hecksher

George M. (Big George) (Hecky) Hecksher, 78 of the Lester section of Tinicum Township. Born in Lester, Pa to George P. Hecksher and Marion D. (Horne) Hecksher. He was the husband of the late Jeannette (Engel) Hecksher, they were married for 56 years. George worked in Westinghouse second shift as a turbine blader, he was also on the Westinghouse Fire Department. He also worked as a scrap metal recycler for many years. He lived in Lester, Pa. all of his life, he was very proud of his hometown. George was known by many for his involvement with the Lester and Essington fire departments, The Tinicum Towship Swim Club where he was in charge of the grounds committee for many years and helped with the corn boils. He also was known by most of the kids on Seneca Street for watching them and helping them have a safe place to play. George always made a presence in the room, just by being him. He enjoyed making others laugh, crab feasts, fishing and his pet Twiddles. George loved dogs and owned many of them during his lifetime. George also was very active in the West End Boat Club, he enjoyed many people and functions there he followed it from Chester Pa to Essington Pa.
Survivors: Anne Marie Eppler (Barry), Essington Pa. George M. Hecksher, Jr. Zebulon NC. Mark A. Hecksher (Michelle Desiderio), Lester Pa. Bryan P. Hecksher, Rehoboth Beach DE. Christopher M. Hecksher (Jaime) Clifton Heights Pa. He was Pop Pop to Rick Serra, Ian Hecksher, Steven Hecksher, Nicole Davis, Erin Freeman and Delaney Hecksher. He has a Great Grand daughter Julianna
He is also survived by his brother Eddie (Angel Pie) Hecksher (Helen) of Woodstown NJ.

His Celebration of life service will be held Tuedsay, December 10, 2013 5pm to 7pm for the viewing and the funeral service will be from 7pm to 730, at St John's Lutheran Church, 601 Seneca St. Essington Pa 19029.
