This memory is from Eugene Kennedy Jr, I knew John through my wife family Selina Kennedy. I like John because he was straight and forward, not trying to be anyone but himself just like me, we both serve in the military, I alway reminded him that marines was created by the Navy, I am a Retired Navy Cheif , and John would had made a good Sailor if he wasn’t such a good Marine. I enjoy seeing him at his son JD house when we visit our family in Philly, I have a lot of good memories but the best one was when My wife and I visit him at the Philadelphia VA hospital we had some good laugh, but the best time was when John as me why I believe in God, I told him because when I made Jesus lord of my life he change me, and I can not speak for anyone else but I know me , I grew up in Philly, and I am not the same I am a different man today because God did a miracle he change me , I can’t Fool myself. I know I am change, God have shown me many reasons to believe that he exist , but when I look in the mirror I am a change man. John listen to every words I said and smile, and I told him No matter how you felt about God, he alway love you. That will alway be my favorite memory of John.
May God peace and comfort be with his wife, Sons, Daughters and grandchildren.

John will always be affectionately called my cousin John he was the husband of my cousin Glenda and the father of my little big cousin JD and Shane Johnson and anyone who knew him knew he loved his wife and boys. He was a strong proud marine, fun and playful ,he good at tricking me to believe what he told me, I would say are telling me the truth and he would smile with a contagious smile, and I knew I had been fooled again.
I loved him for the way he loved our family.
My most memorable memory is when we came to visit him in the VA hospital, me, my husband, niece Nae and his wife Glenda gathered in his room, talking and laughing at his jokes about us. He always had a quick comeback line to anything we’d say to him.
His greatly loved and missed.

Mr. Johnson was truly a wonderful man. From the very first time I met him, he was warm, accepting, never judged me, and always made me feel like I was one of his kids. He regularly showed interest in my comings and goings and work in NYC, and encouraged me to keep growing and achieving. Mr. Johnson cracked me up b/c on multiple occasions when I saw him, he'd secretly slip me a folded up twenty and tell me to do something fun in the city. No matter how hard I protested, he always insisted.
I am extremely thankful to have met and been able to enjoy the time that I had with you, Mr. Johnson. Thanks for raising such an awesome son to have as my best friend. May you fly high, soar free, rest easy, and shine down on us all.

When I was a teenager, I went to a bar looking for my parents and Uncles Johnny was there. He noticed that my long finger nails were pointy. He said, finger nails like those will break easily, he literally showed me how to file my nails. To this day I still file them the way he showed me.
There was another time I was at a bar, my mom order me a coke. When I went to the ladies room and came back for my drink, Uncle Johnny told me, never finish a drink that you walk away from in a bar because you never know if someone spiked it while you were gone. I don't go to bars but I never finish a drink in public places when I am alone because I know sensible advice when I hear it.

John was serious about Glenda.
He said what he said and he stood on it. My 1st time meeting him at my dad Rob's house..he told me" yea you have to be tough and serious to be in this family, because we don't play"! He was always so serious but fun and had a story to tell that made an impact on life decisions. He always gave the best hugs eva!! He absolutely loved his family and made sure to tell you. RIP Uncle John. Love you always Nephew Anthony, babygurls Selena and Essence Cooke.
