Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Bailey Hansen, 90, of Folsom, PA, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2023. She was surrounded by love. Born in Chester on February 21, 1932, Carol was raised in Ridley Park where she graduated from Ridley High School in 1950. The daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Bailey, she resided in Swarthmore for 42 years before moving to Folsom in 2006. As a young child she lived in Woodlyn on Taylor Avenue. Coincidentally, her son Cris purchased the same house many decades later without knowing it was his mother's childhood home. Carol married her high school sweetheart, "'Darlin Bob" Hansen shortly after graduating from Goldie Beacon Business School. She claims she saw him at the end of the hallway as a freshman in high school and said to herself, "I'm going to marry him someday." They were married 59 years before his passing in 2011. During the early years of marriage, Carol could be found running a restaurant "uptown" called "The Spot." It was a traditional soda shop serving hamburgers and shakes, which was very popular with the college and high school kids at the time. She then had her first child, Rob, and taught pre-school at the School in Rose Valley for several years. Carol and Bob had two more sons, Cris and Kurt, and completed their family with their daughter, Kate. During these years she was self-employed utilizing her business skills helping to manage local campaigns, small businesses and fundraising for the American Cancer Society. She spent the middle years of her life managing a local architectural firm in Swarthmore, from which she retired. Carol loved to travel with her husband, and they would drive to Florida and Louisiana to see family frequently. As a result of their travels, they purchased "Down Home" a small beach house outside of Assateague Island, MD. They loved spending time there on their boat, tooling about in the bay. Her faith and church community always provided great meaning to her life. At one point, you could find her playing drums as part of the praise and worship team. She remained faithful to her callings which included providing grief counseling and running a woman's group. She always had the ability to see the good in people and did her best to make sure they could see it too. Most recently, she was a member of the New Life Community Church of God and was devoted to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Carol, or "Jammom" as she was affectionately known, always kept her hands busy too, creating the most amazing quilts for all 10 of her grandchildren. She was an avid knitter, and family members all have the most amazing sweaters, hats, scarves, and afghans. She also knitted each grandchild a "blankie" at birth, many are still in active existence. She loved sports and could always be found on the sidelines cheering on her children and grandchildren. She especially loved English Premier Soccer and talking to other fans about her favorite team, Liverpool. Carol was one of the original Philadelphia Eagles Majorettes. Her favorite things included the color blue, the number 6, and lilies. She loved Raisinettes, the Bible, drinking coffee and tea, playing bridge and scrabble, Glenn Ford and Grimm's Fairy Tales. She watched Jeopardy every night, was a morning person, and loved fresh fish and seafood. She treasured her family and friends, and at the end of her life, was completely surrounded with love from all. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Hansen, son, Cris H. Hansen, sister, June Transue, and brother, Thomas Bailey. SURVIVORS Sons: Robert P. Hansen, Jr. of Folsom, PA, and Kurt (Brittany) Hansen of Milford, Ohio Daughter: Kate (Sam) Dickey of Swarthmore, PA Grandchildren: Kelsey and Kristen Hansen, Eric, Jenna and Annika Hansen.
