Obituary of Franklin L. Seidel

Franklin L. Seidel, 62, of Springfield, a former Chief Engineer for Collingdale Fire Company #1, died suddenly on February 17 at Springfield Hospital. Born in Chester, PA, he graduated from Collingdale High School in 1965 and immediately entered an apprenticeship to become an electrician with IBEW Local 98. He worked for Williard's Electrical Construction division for 39 years. As a foreman of electrical construction, he wired major Philadelphia facilities including Lincoln Financial Field, Citizen's Bank Ballpark, Wills Eye Hospital, The Kimmel Center and the Franklin Mills Mall. After retirement in 2004,he started his own electrical handyman business, serving the electrical needs of many community members. Mr. Seidel was also a longtime member of Collingdale Fire Company #1, serving as the company's Chief Engineer from 1970-1973. He recently returned to the company and had just been elected to the Board of Trustees. He was an avid motorcyclist and car collector and belonged to the Tri-State Harley Owners Group in Media, PA for at least 10 years. He was also a member of the Historical Car Club of Pennsylvania, and his classic and antique cars and motorcycles won numerous awards at various local car shows. He enjoyed traveling to other parts of the country to ride motorcycles. He attended Bike Week in Daytona numerous times and traveled up the coast of California on his Harley. Mr. Seidel was also an avid stamp and coin collector, a love that was passed on to him from his grandfather. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren. He was the son of the late Franklin W. Seidel and Reba W. Seidel. He is survived by his daughters Karen (Brendan) Seidel Dunn and Nancy (Christopher) Ziegenfuss and their mother, Lynn J. Seidel, as well as four grandchildren. Service: 11:00 AM Wednesday at the McCausland-Garrity Funeral Home, 202 South Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA. Visitation: Tuesday, February 23 from 7:00-9:00 PM and Wednesday, February 24 from 9:30-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial: Saturday, February 28. Friends and family should meet at McCausland-Garrity Funeral home at 11:00 AM to process to Mt. Zion Cemetery. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Collingdale Fire Company #1, 510 Clifton Ave., Collingdale, PA 19023.
