Obituary of Dorothy A Shannon

Dorothy Ann Shannon, a loving aunt, a caring cousin, and a faithful friend, left this world on November 10, 2021 at the age of 78. Known by many as either "Dot" or "Dottie", she was born in Philadelphia to John and Dorothy (McGee) Shannon on February 4, 1943. After graduating from West Catholic High School for Girls, she began a more than four decade career with Bell of Pennsylvania and later Verizon. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis De Sales Parish (Philadelphia) and later St. Madeline Parish (Ridley Park), and she was a steadfast member of the New Vision (Bell Telephone) Pioneers volunteers organization. Throughout her life, she gave generously and with love to her family and friends. Dot grew up in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia. For over thirty years she was a proud homeowner in Ridley Park. At the time of her passing, she was a resident of St. Martha Center in Downingtown. Predeceased by her parents, her two brothers (John and Thomas), and her beloved dogs (Fluffy and Cocoa), Dot is survived by her three nephews and their spouses (Jack and Denise Shannon, Kevin Shannon, and Brian and Shannan Shannon); her niece (Debra Carter); her great-nephews and great-nieces (Kyle, Colin, and Keanan Carter; Moira Shannon; and Emma and Keira Shannon); her sister-in-law (Mina Shannon); her cousins (The McGees (Mary, Peggy, Tom, Janet (Shlegel), and Joe); The Umsteads (Joanne (Hubert), Denise (Calhoun), Dan, and Gary); and The Willsons (Mary (Ploschke), and Joe); and many other loving family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 20, at St. Madeline Parish, 406 Morton Avenue, Ridley Park, PA 19078. Visitation with family will take place on the same day from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM at the church.
