Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William E. Sharpless Sr., age 83 and longtime resident of Glenolden passed away September 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Delaware County, he was a lifelong resident of Glenolden and resided in his same home for over 60 years. He served in the naval reserves for a short time before beginning his career with Gulf Oil. Bill worked his way up to Executive Credit Manager of Mobil Oil. Never one to stay idle, he always kept busy working various part time jobs, with his most recent being a crossing guard for Glenolden Elementary and for the police department.
He adored being near the water and upon his retirement spent 20 plus years on his houseboat that he shared with his beloved wife Alice. He absolutely adored his 6 grandchildren, never missing a game, birthday, or any celebration.
Known as "Pops" to the community, He was an avid Philly sports fan, but his real love was for his hometown Interboro Bucs footbll and his OG's (Old Guys) who faithfully congregated at every game at the top of the bleachers on the 50yd line. They critiqued many a coaching decision from their perch- even his son Billy Jr. took the brunt from the OG's when refereeing games.
He is predeceased by his wife Alice M. Sharpless and his parents Joseph Sharpless and Irma Lafferty.
