Obituary of Corita A. Peabody

Corita Anne Peabody, age 83 of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on January 21, 2021 at Rosewood Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Broomall, PA.

Corita, known as "CoCo" to many was born on January 28, 1937 in Manhattan, NY to James Chester Haynes, Jr. and Corita Marie Haynes (Robinson). After graduating from Seton Hall Catholic High School in Patchogue, NY in 1954, she continued on to study at St. John's University in Queens, NY. She started working for the United States Postal Service in Philadelphia, PA in 1968 unloading Postal trucks. After 36 years she retired as a Data Site Technician.

A loving, devoted mother to her three children, Corita worked hard while raising them on her own. She made sure they always had warm, clean clothes and a warm, clean home. She encouraged them to not only be strong and independent but to also be caring and compassionate. She always had a smile for everyone she encountered. She loved animals and was devoted to her many pets throughout the years and looked forward to seeing them again in Heaven. She was a contributing member of the ASPCA. Corita loved talking to her children and grandchildren on the phone and could talk for hours. She would never miss sending a card for any and every occasion. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and was a longtime fan of the Phillies and Eagles and rarely missed a game.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her siblings, James Chester Haynes III of Port Jefferson Station, NY., Anthony Nye Haynes of Grants Pass, OR. and Judith Marie Wimmer of St. James, NY., along with her two sons, James "Larry" Lawrence Peabody of Wilmington, DE. and David Lee Peabody of Galloway, NJ., her daughter, Corita Marie Pressley of Chippewa Falls, WI. Also her grandchildren, Corita "Cori" Conklin (John) of Altoona, WI., Jennifer Sherwood (Barry) of Rio Grande, NJ., James Pressley III (Maria Herdahl) of Prairie Farm, WI., Tina Peabody (Cody Bouck) of Albany, NY., Christina Sturgis (Melanie) of Newark, DE., Alexis Peabody (Khadeir Hamilton) of Wilmington, DE., Brittany Peabody (Sam Bergere) of Manayunk, PA. and John Robert (J.R.) Peabody of Galloway, NJ. Corita is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Corita (Reagan), Julianna, Alivia, Vya, Brayden and Reese along with all of her longtime friends and many nieces and nephews including her Godson Kevin Wimmer.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this year.
