November 6, 1949 – June 20, 2020 Bennie (Doonie) Bobbitt, went home to glory on Saturday, June 20, 2020. He was 70 years old. Born on November 6, 1949 in Henderson, NC. The first son of the late Bennie and Bessie Lou (Cooper) Bobbitt. Growing up, Bennie was a father figure, brother, teacher and friend to his 9 younger siblings. As the Eldest, he took his big brother responsibilities seriously. Always looking out for his brothers and sisters and ready to hand out swift punishment if they were caught fighting each other. From a young man he was known to own nice cars. It was also known the trouble to pay if anyone messed with his cars. He studied martial arts in his youth. He developed his skill and technique to know the different pressure points of the body. Many of us remember being brought to our knees by his infamous "neck clutch." He worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY for many years before moving to Philadelphia. He was a part of Allied Trade Union 1955 as a foreman for 39 years. Always a team player, teaching his brothers and many others his master carpentry skills. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, yearly summer vacations to Lake George, NY and spending time with his family. Bennie was an avid New York Giants Fan. He was predeceased by his parents Bennie and Bessie Lou Bobbitt. Sisters Mary Alice and Regina (Scott); Brothers Thomas and Christopher, and brother-in-law Emmanuel. Bennie is survived by his loving companion and wife of 38 years, Sheila who never left his side. He is also survived by his sons Bennie Holman of Chicago, Cameron Wright Bobbitt (Walia) of North Carolina and daughter Alana Wright-Benton. One grand-daughter Lola and one grandson Ajani. Brothers Lloyd Bobbitt (NuRita) of North Carolina, Numil Bobbitt (Dawn) of Rotterdam, Gregory Bobbitt (Donna) of Schenectady, Leffon Bobbitt (Kelle) of Georgia. Sisters Rebecca Roberts (Joseph) of South Carolina, Olivia Adams of Schenectady, Beverly Bobbitt (Michael) of Schenectady and Cecilia Marie Bobbitt of Schenectady. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Bennie "Doonie" Bobbitt was a humble, strong, man of few words. His infectious smile and laughter spoke volumes of the love and wisdom he shared by his mere presence. He will forever be greatly admired, loved and missed.
