Obituary of Alice Ernestine Parrott

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alice Ernestine Parrott, née Maiden, and known to family and friends as Ernestine, went home to the Lord on April 5, 2020 at the age of 91. She was a resident of King of Prussia, and a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed the past two years living at Blue Bell Place, an assisted living facility in Blue Bell, PA.

Born on January 6, 1929 to Ethel (Aldridge) and Russell Maiden, Ernestine grew up in the West Philadelphia area and attended the St. Rose of Lima parish elementary school. She was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls, Class of 1946.

In 1950, Ernestine married Earl W. Parrott, her first and only love. She was a devoted wife, mother and career woman who always found time to help others in need, and did so throughout her entire life. She was a devout Catholic, who was strong in her faith and very active in her church. She also participated in various bible study groups throughout the years. She was very involved and supportive of her husband’s ministry, and especially while he was pastor of Christ Evangelical Baptist Church.

Ernestine was an avid tennis player for a good portion of her life, and had played on several leagues throughout the city. She also enjoyed bowling, ping pong, and pool. For many years, she enjoyed hosting friends and family for vacations in the Poconos; and loved hosting luncheons and tea parties for her friends, neighbors and church family. In later years, she cherished summer vacations in Long Beach Island, NJ and winter vacations in Florida with her family.

Her administrative career began upon graduation from high school. She retired from the Philadelphia School District where she had been Head Secretary at John Bartram High School for many years. Prior to her employment with the Philadelphia School District, she worked for the City of Philadelphia.

Ernestine dedicated her life to the service of others within her community – whether it be providing transportation, preparing and delivering a meal, or caring for the convalesced. Her caring demeanor and selflessness became her hallmark and her legacy.

Ernestine will be greatly missed by her family, cherished friends, and church families from St. Charles Borromeo and St. Anthony parishes (Philadelphia), who will always remember her kind, gentle, and caring nature. She is predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Earl W. Parrott (Christ Evangelical Baptist Church of Philadelphia), sisters Dolores Wilson, Jean Thomas, Linda Taylor, and her brother Russell Maiden.

Survivors: Loving mother of Kathleen (Jerzy) Dutkiewicz, cherished grandmother of Chantia Leonard, Rachel Leonard, Ashley Dutkiewicz, dear great-grandmother of Kennedy Greer, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
